What should I do to handle this correctly?

An adult has to be with the kids until they are on the bus. You can't have children watching children get on the bus no matter how far or how little time away your job is. Tell your boss that you have to come to work later so you can see your kids off to the bus. Or get an adult neighbor to do it and pay them.
