What happened to the Mayas? Where are they?

Descendants of the Mayas are still living in the Yucat�n region of Mexico and parts of Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. I was in Mexico last week and visited Zama (Tulum) with a half Mayan guide. Zama was still inhabited during the early years of the Spanish conquest and is the only Maya site closed to non-Mayas for annual ceremonies that take place during the spring equinox.
